Cuba no - Yanqui si

Despite Mr. Bush’s mendacious reassurances during his campaign for President that he would engage in no attempts at “nation building,” there is a special office for reconstruction inside the US State Department preparing for the day Fidel Castro dies. The idea, according to Financial Times writer Guy Dinmore is to build a new nation in Cuba and presumably a nation eager to regain the look and feel and US domination of the Pre-Castro Cuba. The inter-agency effort, writes Dinmore, also involves the Defense Department because the Cuba “transition” may not go peacefully and the US may have to launch a nation-building exercise to make sure of the outcome: a country owned and operated by US corporations and elections of US approved leaders assured by Diebold.

It’s beginning to smell a lot like Iraq. Caleb McCarry, the Cuba transition co-coordinator, is working on the project within the Office for Reconstruction and Stabilization, which was established by the Bush administration to prevent and prepare for post-conflict situations. Condoleezza Rice, secretary of state, appointed Mr. McCarry in July. His post was recommended by the Commission for Assistance to a Free Cuba, which she noted was created by President George W. Bush "to accelerate the demise of Castro's tyranny".

It seems that military analysts question the Government’s commitment to the plans, given the small budget allowed McCarry and it’s possible that the entire project was a campaign ploy to boost Bush’s ratings with “Exiled” Miami Cubans.
"The US has a history of not being very successful in achieving desired outcomes in Cuba," cautioned Daniel Erikson, analyst with the Inter-American Dialogue think-tank. If I were given to vulgarities, I might respond with “no shit, Dan.”

Is this another example of presidential loose lips or another stage in the Forever War the Administration hopes to use to keep us broke and patriotic for the next thousand years? A US military officer is quoted as saying: "The truth is that nobody, including anyone on the island, knows what will happen during a transition. It's a little like trying to figure out how many angels can dance on the head of a pin."

The real question is: how many wars can dance on the pin-head in chief?

Albert Einstein once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. By that definition, the entire Administration is insane.
