Rum and smoke

Bacardi 151. It’s about 75% alcohol according to the label and as we all know and as some of us have seen, the stuff burns, making for dramatic dessert presentations at fancy restaurants and sometimes for lawsuits. You may or may not see this as part of America’s dramatic descent into idiocy, but according to Palm Beach CBS affiliate WPEC this morning, there exists a woman who feels the product is defective.

No, it does contain the amount of alcohol stated on the label. The bottle doesn’t leak; it’s not spiked with some toxic substance and doesn’t even have a dead worm in it. It’s defective, according to two lawsuits filed in Miami, because alcohol did what alcohol does when a customer set fire to his menu and used it to ignite the rum the bartender was pouring. One has to feel sorry for the woman who was burned when the bottle became a flamethrower, but of course, only an American would claim defect because air contains oxygen and rum contains alcohol and all in the proportions they are supposed to.

Of all the things that are happening today, this seems pretty small, but then our country is starting to feel rather small in terms of intelligence and moral character.

These are the same people that should be banned from drinking McDonald's coffee because it's actually hot.

When you set something on fire, how can you be surprised when it burns?

I feel sorry for the Bacardi company and the poor bartender.

This reminds me of the urban legend wherein a woman sues a department store because she tripped over an unruly child and sprained her ankle (or something like that). Turns out the unruly child she tripped over was her own...

Summed up nicely capt: greed and stupidity are the order of the day here in America...

i guess the guy who burned her didn't have enough money to make suing him worthwhile....

That may be the whole story - you don't look for justice, you follow the money.
